If you’ve met Matilda before, you’ll know she’s not one to blend in. She’s bold, beautiful, and famously generous in size. What started as a cult favourite from our small-batch bakery has grown into a national moment: Matilda is now available in Tesco stores across the UK.
She may be going big, but we’re keeping everything that matters the same. Every slice is still baked in our Lancashire kitchen, hand-finished by our team, and packed with the same small-batch care that made her famous in the first place.
This is a big step for us at Studio Bakery and we’re thrilled to bring you along for the ride.
From Garden Studio to National Shelves
Studio Bakery began in a small garden studio, driven by a love of baking that was as much about joy and generosity as it was about butter and Belgian chocolate. Every cake that’s come out of our oven has been made by hand, in small batches, with the same level of care we’d put into a bake for our own family.
Over the years, we’ve grown – adding new treats, new flavours, and a few more ovens along the way. But we’ve never lost sight of our roots: handmade, heartfelt bakes that look as good as they taste. And Matilda? She’s the cake that captures it all.
Meet Matilda
Matilda is what happens when you take everything you love about cake and make it bigger. Much bigger.
She comes in two flavours: our iconic rich chocolate slab, and a soft jam sponge that’s equal parts nostalgic and indulgent. Each one is layered, loaded, and finished by hand. There’s no such thing as portion control here. Just sponge, cream, ganache, and the occasional “how are we supposed to eat all this?” (Spoiler: you’ll manage.)
What started as a showstopper for special occasions quickly became a cult favourite online. Now, she’s ready for the spotlight on a national stage.
